Tijuana Road Construction on International Boulevard (TJ)
News is that the International Boulevard/Carretera Federal 1D (the road along the international border fence) which gets you through Tijuana and south toward Rosarito, Ensenada, etc., is the latest road under construction, and will be closed for approximately 3 months.
So far, the reports from some who have traveled this way are not horrendous. Be patient and pay attention to the directional signs.
The portion marked is red is closed as of today. Green marks the SOUTHBOUND detour. So far… all other roads are the same.
Southbound: Follow the signs and you will take the LEFT “Y” in the road off of International Boulevard, through the Colonia Lomas Mision, and on to Second Street. You will, thereafter, flow easily onto the normal transition to the Cuota/Toll Road.
Northbound: If you take the Cuota/Toll Road north, you will be routed/forced to continue on Second Street toward central Tijuana. No construction, but normal traffic in downtown.
Your other option is to take the “Old/Free Road – Mex 1” through downtown Tijuana to Rosarito. It is in pretty good shape, with no current construction under way. If you have been afraid to take this route, now may be the time to go this way… takes you right by the Plaza Rio.
