 Re: Gay Acapulco Shore Excursion
Cruisers,
Some of you are aware that the tour guide Kevin has suggested a change in location for the beach party. I have expressed mixed feelings, but asked him to propose it for everyone to judge. Here are his comments, and I will comment further below:
Hello Ken,
Was a long day yesterday. And I was not near a PC the entire day. However, I want to refresh our conversation regarding the location for the beach party. When confirming your group, I learned that Coco Loco has 80 cruise ship passengers reserved for the same day - 100% Heterosexual. I want to give your group a nice beach where you can have privacy, ample shade and can feel comfortable holding hands or whatever. Coco Loco is not going to provide this level of comfort especially around other groups of cruise clients. I have already paid for a bus for 10 hours and it has a bathroom. I have contracted two certified tour guides (excellent English) one with 35 years experience, the other with over 20 years. You will be arriving in Acapulco on a Thursday. Every Thursday is Pozole Day in Acapulco. It is a nice, colorful tradition here. The only change in this tour that I am suggesting is to a more private, extremely comfortable beach area. There will be a live band playing a lot of upbeat music, Pozole will be served, the tables are under Palm Palapas and palm trees with a spectacular view of Acapulco bay. It is really more fun. Coco Loco will be nice, but sterile. This is my hang out, where I go to relax, where I feel comfortable being a gay man on the beach. And there are no other cruise ship clients. There is a Shower, ample bathrooms, lots of shade, good food, live entertainment. The beer is cheaper 15 pesos as compared to 25 at Coco Loco. The seafood will be supplied FRESH the morning of your arrival. Tequila shots for those who want them. Corona beer will be packed in ice. One entre for each guest will be provided, and of course Pozole. No change in price for you, no change in the tour. Just a better beach, a gay friendly atmosphere, total privacy. Much better for us all. This is the fact: I am offering you a lot more for the same price. Kevin.
The key element for me is that CocoLoco will have 80 other cruise passengers. I tried to equate it to what I would do if you all were to come to Rosarito and ask me to arrange something for you. Would I take you to my favorite local place with local color, or would I take you to a more formal tourist place? As you know, I always try to patronize gay friendly small business.
Kevin tells me that we have a reservation at CocoLoco, so I trust that the original proposal can be met. He is offering and suggesting that we will have more fun at the new location. In all honesty, we rely on his judgement for most everything, so why second guess him now? CocoLoco probably is a more "establishment" place... since it was created for cruise passengers. I have mixed feelings but tend to agree with him... now I need your opinion.
I'm sorry to trouble you with this... but we are a genuine group, and you are not being dictated to.
Ken

Cruisers,
The forum was locked for a while, and some of you responded directly to me. I hope everyone feels free to comment here, and I am posting the messages sent privately to me below.
Thanks for you help and understanding!
Ken
Kevin makes a few very valid points... At risk of doing some backtracking, at the end of today we either trust him or we don't. Also, the more detailed explanation does sound much better than the too brief one we received yesterday. And I take it there are facilities comparable and lunch (Pozole) is included. Ken, if my understanding is correct, then lets go for it. Besides... I love traditional pozole... For those who don't know what pozole is - and Ken again correct me if I'm thinking of something else - but its a pork stew best described as like Munudo EXCEPT NO TRIPE. My Ex's family (Ed was from New Mexico) used to make it with chunks of pork meat. It's very flavorable and easy on the stomach for us gringo's who can't handle some of the more spicy Mexican faire... Three days and counting... Ralph
I am up for whatever he thinks is best. He is the one with the knowledge. Terry
Hi Ken, I would have definetly voted for the proposed alternate beach versus CocoLoco knowning what I know now. Hope the other's that were concerned will go along as well. Thanks, Paul

Ken- The smaller but more private beach sounds much better - we will be spending enough time with the other cruise passengers it will be nice to get away from them for awhile. Carl Zander
same reply as b4 -- go with the guy that knows -- the tour guide/operator Paul F.

 Re: Gay Acapulco Shore Excursion
Okay kids, here's a progress report:
Thanks to those of you who were able go access your computer during the day and respond.
At present, we have 12 out of 22 who accept the change; the other precincts are still counting. With any luck we can get over 25 with guys from the ship! This is wearing me out, but I can't wait to get packing, and focus on the fun we start having on Monday!
18 are paid... four outstanding. You know who you are!
Thanks for stepping forward.

 Re: Gay Acapulco Shore Excursion
I want pozole! 2nd beach LOL ~~Ray
(Never thought the stuff could make such an impression!)
Kevin is there and I am not. That said, I would be happier if I had the menu of the new location to compare, after all, we are buying food. However, at the end of the day, I think that I will accept Kevin's changed proposal. We are paying for his advice and logic dictates in the absence of better knowledge the best course is to accept his new proposal. ~~GlennOk Kevin, please post those pictures and descriptions so we can make this final!

 The Menu
Fish, Shrimp, Hamburgers, Ceviche (Very good). Pazole will also be served, dinner salads, fresh ice water, bread will be included. Horchata, Jamaica and Iced tea will be available. Cakes from Sharons will be served for dessert.
You are going to be very full and happy when you finish.

 Re: Gay Acapulco Shore Excursion
Kevin: Thanks for the posting of the new beach location. I think that it looks just fine. However, a casual scan of the menu suggests that there are fewer choices and the cost of dinning is significantly lower compared to the first location you proposed. And, while that is OK with me, your price for the day's tour was based on the more expensive restaurant. I must add, by the time this change was proposed, I had already made my deposit and was not interested in backing out of the day's tour and was willing to accept you advice. As a result of the aforementioned conclusion; in a previous post I supported the change to this new beach restaurant. However; I think that you need to make a price adjustment to reflect the less expensive restaurant we will be using. Or, offer the option of an immediate refund of deposits already made. I repeat, I am OK with the change of location but the lower menu prices at this new restaurant should be reflected in the price we are charged for the day.

 Re: Gay Acapulco Shore Excursion
In the other location only an entree would have been included.
For this location I have shown the menu for the entrees available to you but you are getting much more.
The following is included with this new location which is actually a much better value:
1. Pozole (Soup) 2. Dinner salad 3. Bread and butter 3. Dessert (cakes from Sharons Bakery) 4. Free Tequila shots
None of the above is on the menu because I am purchasing them for this tour. I thought giving a full meal would be a far better option. And because the menu items are less expensive I was able to pay for your entire meal instead of only your main course. Certainly I have made adjustments to your excursion but only in the interest of delivering a superior experience and value. And quite honestly, it is costing me more to give you a party at the new location; considerably more.
And I am not just putting you in the hands of another company and saying feed them. I am involved personally in every aspect of your experience at this new location.
On another note - Usually companies rent a bus for four hours only to give a tour. I have rented the largest and newest bus in Acapulco for this tour. It is a 2008 and it is huge. And since I wanted you to see the cliff divers after your beach break I had to rent the bus for 10 hours instead of the usual 4 hours. I am not cutting corners or giving you a lesser tour. I have added a complete experience and much more value because you and this excursion are very important to me and the future success of my tour company Aca Gay Tours.
It was not an easy decision for Ken or I to suggest an alternate location or restaurant. The change came with much thought - All of you could have said forget it and canceled. But you trusted me to make this change. Trust me now. You are going to be very happy.
Below is the itinerary for the day:
When you arrive in Acapulco your tour guides will be waiting for you in the terminal and will be holding AGT signs.
1. The group will walk over to the Fort of San Diego for a tour of the fort / museum 2. Passengers will board the bus at the Fort after the tour. 3. You will take a basic city tour and will have the chance to see the Zocalo / Cathedral / shops and a few observation areas. About 45 minutes in the Zocalo and the same for the Fort of San Diego. 4. At about 4 - 5:00p you will arrive at the beach (Depends on traffic). Food and drinks will be served immediately. 6. At about 8:30 or 9p we will go to the cliff divers show. You will be back on the ship by 10p - 10:30p local time.
